New Laptop Journey
My Macbook Pro 13 2017 was on the it's way out. Battery acted very strangely (jumping in battery power, turning off at around 30%, not charging while ON), usb ports also stopped working properly. So it was time to look into a new machine. Being a paranoid idealist with a limited budget meant that I couldn't make up my mind for about a month. New XPS looked really sexy, but it just came out, and previous models had some thermal issues. Surface laptops imitate that premium look that I'm used to, but doesn't offer a more competitive price, so why bother? Macs are expensive. So I went web surfing. There are basically 2 camps of people I've identified: First ones are the MKBHD copycats with a poor hardware understanding firmly pushing mainstream laptops. Second are the gaming community people also known in Ru-net as " couch troops" for their ultimate ability to sit on the couch and judge everything moving around them. They will make sure that you know why you should get that laptop and not the other one, but also make sure to get this specific configuration, but also remember not to get certain letters in your videocard, oh and don't forget that actually if you don't get into your laptop's hardware and repaste everything then it's not worth it, oh and the paste you are using should be the Liquid Metal, because it's definitely worth to take a risk and apply a material that can destroy your motherboard in order to get a 3% cooling boost... Oh, and don't you dare mention Macs to them. So anyway, I basically listened to both. I, first, got myself a 15'' MSI GS66 2070mq (OH NO, MQ! HOW DARE HE. IT'S WORSE THAN 2060 by 3%!!!!!!!!) 1TB 240Hz. It actually is a very interesting laptop - Heavy, Solid build, but unfortunately my spacebar was defective. Thus, I have exchanged it, added a bit more, traded in my 3year old 13' MB with broken usb/battery/keyboard for $516. Damn that felt good! Anyway, so I got myself the 16' Macbook Pro i9 1TB model. I've been sceptical at first, but the more I work on it, the better the feel is. Moral of the story? I don't know, it's late, whatever you want it to be :/
